Dale and Leeanne are both from Aotearoa (New Zealand).
Leeanne is a NZ Māori and a teacher of the native language “te reo Māori” and is passionate about her culture, communities and the environment.
Dale is a European New Zealander and spent many years as a tour guide. He is also a professional builder and left his employment four years ago to fulfill a dream of creating a space suitable for hosting guests from all over the world.
Dale and Leeanne have excellent local knowledge of both Māori and European early settlement and have spent many years traveling around New Zealand especially in the South Island. They are very happy to share this with you.
Dale and Leeanne reside in a private part of the ground floor but are freely available should you be needing any assistance or advice. Most guest rooms are upstairs with the exception of the Turret Room (the old formal lounge).
Guided tours are also available to many popular locations near Christchurch - Explore Akaroa, Castle Hill, Hammer Springs or the local markets. Please email regarding prices.
Let them share with you the local Māori and European history of these areas.
You’ll get a taste of the true Kiwi lifestyle when you stay at The Castle with Leeanne and Dale!
Why named “The Castle”?
“The Castle” name is derived from their daughter’s surprised exclamation that the house looked indeed like a castle and she felt like a true princess. Since then many have agreed it surely is The Castle.
